Fighter’s Heaven, Muhammad Ali’s landmark training camp, invites you to attend a special fundraiser event September 27, to celebrate the 50th anniversary of one of the legendary bouts in boxing history, ‘The Thrilla in Manila’.
The Thrilla was the third and final bout between boxing’s two greatest rivals, Muhammad Ali and Joe Frazier. Ali defended his championship in a brutal fight that was stopped by Frazier’s corner after the 14th round.
Headlining the event are Khaliah Ali daughter of the three-time heavyweight champion along with former world heavyweight champion Tim Witherspoon.
The day’s activities include a panel discussing the lives of the two boxing legends, a screening of the legendary fight, followed by an expert discussion. Also included are lunch, a post-event reception and a special commemorative poster.
Other program participants include Mark Kram Jr, author of ‘Smokin’ Joe: The Life of Joe Frazier, and Boxing Hall of Fame writers Ron Borges and Randy Gordon, and George Bochetto, a former Pennsylvania State Boxing Commissioner and, who along with his son Evan restored Ali’s childhood home in Louisville. They will screen their short documentary ‘Cassius Ali’, which provides an in-depth look at Ali’s childhood in Louisville.
All proceeds from The Fighter’s Heaven Tribute to 50th Anniversary of Thrilla in Manila will benefit the St. Joseph Center for Special Learning and its mission to educating and supporting children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
Tickets for this limited event are $50, and includes all activities, including a catered lunch and a commemorative event poster. Tickets are limited – please purchase by September 22nd.
